Wild Horse Island is a unique Island located at the south end of Flathead Lake. The Island has a colorful history from the early days of statehood to today as a primitive State Park. Prior to European settlement, the Salish-Kootenai Indians used the island to hide their horses from raids by other tribes. Therefore giving it the name of Wild Horse Island.

Wild Horse Island is the largest inland island in the country and is located on the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi River. Boasting over 2,100 acres of varied landscapes, the islands trail system is perfect for all levels of hiking abilities.

Accessible only by boat, A Able Fishing can take you to the trailhead where you can enjoy the beach and hike the easy trails cross-country. You will be able to enjoy the Palouse prairie plants and have very good chances of seeing the Rocky Mountain big horn sheep, mule deer, bald eagles, osprey, and songbirds that all make their home there. The photography is magnificent; be sure and bring your camera and binoculars for some spectacular photos and views!

Wild Horse Island and touring with A Able Fishing and Tours is a great adventure for all ages!
